A keloid is the formation of a type of scar. It is the result of an overgrowth of the keloid fibroblast lesion where the healed skin is. There are few treatment options for keloids. An intralesional injection of corticosteroids is effective within 6 months of the formation of the keloid, but excision of the keloid alone is associated with high recurrence.
This is why Dr. Boucher prefers to excise the keloid and administer superficial radiation therapy treatment after the removal. This method has proven to be successful with a low recurrence rate. Here at Lone Star State Dermatology Clinic, we have the most up-to-date treatment for keloids, and we pride ourselves in providing this service to our patients.
